This weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Open Regatta saw some nice crowds and some decent region sailing weather. Spectators once again crowded the committee boat race dock in the Woodfall region and the viewing area in the Twice Bitten region. The Bingo Strait regions again treated most of the fleet well as only Laured experienced connection issues leading to a DNF (Did Not Finish) in both portions of the regatta. This weeks small boat fleet, racing on the BBYC 04 Rev 1 course, was made up of a majority of eight The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class. One TMS Nacra 17 and one Bandit IF made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, racing on BBYC Olympic Course (Long), was made up of a split majority of two TMS Ushuaias and two TMS Volvo Open 70s. One TMS One Design 65 and one Wildwind Open 60 made up the remainder of the big boat fleet.

The fleet gets underway during the small boat portion of the Backwater Bay Yacht Club Open Regatta on Wednesday, September 19th, 2018.

Race Notes:
Daenerys (blondij Resident) and Moon (moonglownight Resident) both finished tied with 4 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
blondij Resident 1 3
moonglownight Resident 2 2

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Daenerys’s favor with having a first place finish over Moon’s second place finish as his best.

Laured (laured Cabassoun) and Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) both finished tied with 16 points.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
laured Cabassoun 6 10
ruggeromare Resident 7 9

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Laured’s favor with having a sixth place finish over Rugger’s seventh place finish as his best.
