This weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Cat Fight saw some rough sim sailing weather at the start but conditions calmed for the rest of the race. The regions in the Bingo Strait were fickle as they claimed Joshua, on his The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadow, right after the start line, during race one, for the only DNF (Did Not Finish) on the day. After Josh’s sacrifice, the regions calmed and allowed smooth sailing for the rest of the day. This weeks fleet, sailing on the BBYC 10 and BBYC 12 courses, was comprised entirely of TMS Flying Shadows.

The fleet gets underway at the start of the second race of the Backwater Bay Yacht Club Cat Fight, on Friday, March 22nd, 2019.

On the dock: Daenerys, Cryptic, Arwen, Rugger, lilita, and Blair.

The first IF Star 25R Regatta of 2019 kicked off with some calm sailing weather and a nice turnout. The Bingo Strait regions behaved well as only one DNF (Did Not Finish) was attributed to rough region crossings (the other two DNFs resulting from connection issues). Spectators gathered along the bay front of the Villa in the Twice Bitten region, the slip pier in the Woodfall region, and the committee boat dock. The fleet itself, racing on the BBYC 10 and BBYC 05 courses, was comprised of a majority of six The Mesh Shop Star Class. Two Bandit 25Rs and one Bandit IF made up the remainder of the fleet.

Today’s winner was ViV (vivipezz Resident), with Moon (moonglownight Resident) second, and Ian (IanPixel Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
Moon (moonglownight Resident) and Ian (IanPixel Resident) finished tied with 5 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
moonglownight Resident 3 2
IanPixel Resident 2 3

In the last race, Moon breaks the tie with Ian with his second place finish over Ian’s third place finish.

Jackson (Jacquimo Resident) and Nikki (Nikki Lacrima) both finished tied with 10 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Jacquimo Resident 4 6
Nikki Lacrima 5 5

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Jackson’s favor with having a fourth place finish over Nikki’s fifth place finish as her best.

Did Not Finish (DNF) = number of finish +1
Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start +1

Today’s winner was Ian (IanPixel Resident), with ViV (vivipezz Resident) second, and Laured (laured Cabassoun) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
In race 1, Astrid (AstridNewBonham Resident), Sandra (WWWAAAA Resident), and ViV (vivipezz Resident), were all disqualified (DSQ) for incorrect course as they missed the first course mark, the buoy at the corner of the Twice Bitten region.

In race 1, Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) was disqualified (DSQ) for incorrect course as he incorrectly rounded the lighthouse island in Melia region.

ViV (vivipezz Resident), Laured (laured Cabassoun), and Jackson (Jacquimo Resident), all finished tied with 7 points.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
vivipezz Resident 1 6
laured Cabassoun 2 5
Jacquimo Resident 3 4

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in ViV’s favor with having a first place finish over Laured’s second place finish and Jackson’s third place finish as their best. Subsequently, the tie further breaks in Laured’s favor with having a second place finish over Jackson’s third place best finish.

Moon (moonglownight Resident) and Sandra (WWWAAAA Resident) both finished tied with 12 points.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
moonglownight Resident 2 10
WWWAAAA Resident 6 6

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Moon’s favor with having a second place finish over Sandra’s sixth place finish as her best.

Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) and Astrid (AstridNewBonham Resident) both finished tied with 15 points. As they both have the exact same finishes in each race, a 6 point finish in the first race and 9 point finish in the second race respectively, neither Rule A8.1 nor Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing satisfy breaking the tie and as a result they remain tied with 15 points in 9th place.

Great sailing sim weather and competitive racing featured in this weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Cat Fight. The regions of the Bingo Strait continued their recent stable behavior as no crashes were recorded on the day. The lone DNF (Did Not Finish) was due to Sandra pulling her boat in the first race after crossing through region corners. This weeks fleet, racing on the BBYC 10 and BBYC 04 Rev 1 courses, was comprised entirely of five The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows. Racing was competitive as Daenerys, with Sasha as crew, challenged Isab, with Laured as crew, in race one with Isab coming out on top. During race two, Daenerys challenged Rayz’s, with Lanky as crew, early lead at the first course mark with a nice pass while wind shadowing to pull ahead and finish first across the line.

The Backwater Bay Yacht Club Bandit Regatta has evolved over time from the very first one held as The North Sea Bandit Regatta back on October 12th, 2015. The regatta was the brainchild of Elbag Gable, the owner of The Eden Naturist Estate and The North Sea Estate, as an effort to spur owners of Bandit 55s and 60s seen moored across the estate to come out and learn to race. The most popular boats by far in the regatta have been the Bandit IF and the Bandit 25R. This past month, we saw the introduction of the Star Class racing keel boat from The Mesh Shop. The Star Class, a boat of similar speed and size to the aforementioned IF and 25R, can be seen stretching it’s sails on LL protected waters across the grid. The popularity of the Star Class, among the same racing crowd that sails in our regattas, has lead us to make some changes. The larger boats in the Bandit lineup, the 50, 55, and 60, have been removed from eligibility and the Star Class has been added. With these changes, the regatta is now known as the Backwater Bay Yacht Club IF Star 25R Regatta.

This weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club IF Star 25R Regatta saw decent sim weather with a great fleet turnout. The Bingo Strait regions behaved well as just two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded for the day, one in each race. This weeks fleet, racing on the BBYC 08 Rev 1 course for race one and the BBYC 10* course for race two, was made up of a majority of five The Mesh Shop Star Class. Three Bandit 25Rs and one Bandit IF made up the remainder of the fleet.
