The Second Life Status page messages just before the start of the Backwater Bay Open Regatta, that prevented and also crashed residents across Second Life™ on Wednesday, March 20th, 2019. #justSLthings

The conditions for the Backwater Bay Yacht Club Open Regatta were anything but pleasant. The Second Life™ platform was going through emergency maintenance to its login servers which in effect either crashed most who were logged in at the time, or prevented others from logging in. Yet, we still had several show up to race and even watch. Red was able to bring out her Bandit IF, Donkey, along with Nihiwatu, who had her own Bandit IF. The big boat portion of the regatta was abandoned as it was evident that the ongoing maintenance was preventing anyone from attending due to restricted login access, see Login Maintenance and Host Upgrade from the Second Life Status page.

IF Star 25R Regatta – Oct 2018 Results

At long last, the results posts will start up again. This first cumulative posting contains the five Backwater Bay Yacht Club IF Star 25R Regattas held in October of 2018. More cumulative updates will follow as results from the new year are concurrently posted.

IF Star 25R Regatta – Oct 1st, 2018
Race Director: Daenerys
Wind: SE (135°) 18kts

Note:
Did Not Finish (DNF) = number of finish +1
Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start +1

Today’s winner was Ian (IanPixel Resident), with ViV (vivipezz Resident) second, and Laured (laured Cabassoun) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
In race 1, Astrid (AstridNewBonham Resident), Sandra (WWWAAAA Resident), and ViV (vivipezz Resident), were all disqualified (DSQ) for incorrect course as they missed the first course mark, the buoy at the corner of the Twice Bitten region.

In race 1, Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) was disqualified (DSQ) for incorrect course as he incorrectly rounded the lighthouse island in Melia region.

ViV (vivipezz Resident), Laured (laured Cabassoun), and Jackson (Jacquimo Resident), all finished tied with 7 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
vivipezz Resident 1 6
laured Cabassoun 2 5
Jacquimo Resident 3 4

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in ViV’s favor with having a first place finish over Laured’s second place finish and Jackson’s third place finish as their best. Subsequently, the tie further breaks in Laured’s favor with having a second place finish over Jackson’s third place best finish.

Moon (moonglownight Resident) and Sandra (WWWAAAA Resident) both finished tied with 12 points.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
moonglownight Resident 2 10
WWWAAAA Resident 6 6

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Moon’s favor with having a second place finish over Sandra’s sixth place finish as her best.

Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) and Astrid (AstridNewBonham Resident) both finished tied with 15 points. As they both have the exact same finishes in each race, a 6 point finish in the first race and 9 point finish in the second race respectively, neither Rule A8.1 nor Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing satisfy breaking the tie and as a result they remain tied with 15 points in 9th place.

Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

On the dock: Cryptic, Miky, Arwen, Daenerys, and Blair.

Great sailing weather and a nice turnout featured during this weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club IF Star 25R regatta. Bingo Strait was well behaved again as region crossings were smooth and no DNFs (Did Not Finish) were claimed due to region behavior. However, Moon, who had the only DNF on the day, disconnected in the middle of the de Grasse region and did not log back in for the rest of the regatta. Spectator turnout was nice with crowds gathered at the spectator areas in the Twice Bitten and Woodfall regions as well as on the small committee boat dock. Race turn out was nice as well as this weeks fleet, racing on the BBYC Lightouse and BBYC 09 Rev 1 courses, was comprised of a majority of five The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class. Two Bandit 25Rs made up the remainder of this weeks fleet.

The fleet gets under way on the BBYC 09 Rev 1 course during the second race of the Backwater Bay Yacht Club IF Star 25R Regatta on Monday, September 10th, 2018.

Smooth sim weather and some exciting racing featured in this weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Cat Fight. The Bingo Strait behaved itself as the DNFs (Did Not Finish) in the regatta, three from both races, were due to either non regatta boat interference or hitting a corner*, rather than crashes. This weeks fleet was comprised of a majority of five TMS Flying Shadows, with two TMS Nacra 17s making up the remainder. The racing itself was exciting as Rayz, with Missy on Rayz’s The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadow, and Fanny, on her TMS Nacra 17, were neck and neck at the end of the first race, on the BBYC 09 Rev 1 course, before Fanny put on a show with a speedy jibe in front of Rayz to get across the finish line. In the second race, on the BBYC 06 course, Moon and Beane, both on TMS Flying Shadows, were in a tight battle exchanging positions up until the finish.

*”You can’t be in four regions at once” ~ Unnamed racer before they hit a corner in the second race.
