This weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Open Regatta featured smooth sim sailing weather with a nice fleet turnout. The regions in Bingo Strait returned to their normally smooth sim sailing conditions, after two turbulent weeks of rough crossings and poor region lag, as the two DNFs (Did Not Finish) on the day were due to a lost skipper and another skipper’s boat scripts ceasing to function. Spectators enjoyed the fleet racing, as they gathered along the pier front of the villa in the Twice Bitten region, and also along the light house pier in the Rodel region.

This weeks small boat fleet, racing on the newly created BBYC 13 course, was comprised of four The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows. Three Bandit IFs, and one Bandit 25r made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, racing on the BBYC 03 course, was comprised of split majority of two Wildwind Open 60s and two TMS Volvo Ocean 70s. One TMS Ushuaia and one TMS One Design 65 made up the remainder of the big boat fleet.

Smoother sailing sim weather featured during this weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club IF Star 25R Regatta. The regions in Bingo Strait settled down this week, after two previous weeks of stormy sim sailing weather with only one DNF (Did Not Finish) on the day due to region crossings (the skippers connection was acting up as well). The regatta’s courses were also planned to avoid the Farragut region, which is still in a bad state of affairs and has had several trouble tickets submitted to LL over it’s condition. The other DNF on the day was due to the physical world grabbing Moon mid-race during the second race. This weeks fleet, racing on the BBYC 03 and BBYC Up And Down courses, was comprised of a majority of four Bandit IFs. One lone Bandit 25r made up the remainder of the fleet.

BBYC Open Regatta – Feb 27th 2019

On the dock: Cryptic.

This weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Open Regatta saw some great sim sailing weather turn stormy. The Bingo Strait regions continued their recent two week trend of Jekyll and Hyde region behavior with the lone DNF (Did Not Finish) on the day, during the big boat portion, the result of the Farragut region eating Joshua, his boat, a The Mesh Shop (TMS) Ushuaia, and his crew, Jaslyn. Joshua and Jaslyn would reappear several minutes later, with his boat apparently still residing in Farragut’s belly. The small boat portion saw no region crossing troubles as everyone finished.

This weeks small boat fleet, racing on the BBYC 03 course, was comprised of slim majority of two Bandit IFs. One Quest 2m, one TMS Flying Shadow, and one Bandit 25r made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, racing on the BBYC Lighthouse Race course, was comprised entirely of two TMS Ushuaias. A third boat, a Wildwind AC-45, had attempted to setup for the big boat portion however her race ID would not display on her hulls, after repeated attempts to set race wind, and therefore was not allowed to race*.

*As a note, Wildwind boats display their race ID on their hulls when race wind from a WWC setter is set. If a Wildwind created boat cannot display it’s race ID on its hull, then it won’t be allowed to race in a BBYC race as it can’t be verified that it is indeed using the race wind set by the race director and therefore racing fairly against the other boats in the fleet.

Race Notes:
Nikki (Nikki Lacrima), Red (RedHeadJO Resident). and Joshua (JoshuaMason7 Resident) all finished tied with 4 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

JoshuaMason7 Resident 2 2

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie first breaks in Nikki’s and Red’s favor with having a first place finish over Joshua’s second place finish as his best. Subsequently, to further break the remaining tie between Nikki and Red, as they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
Nikki Lacrima 3 1
RedHeadJO Resident 1 3

In the last race, Nikki breaks the tie with Red with her first place finish over Red’s three point finish, from a DNS (Did Not Start). Therefore, Nikki ends up in first, with Red in second, and Joshua in third, in the tie breaking order.

This weeks fleet, racing on the BBYC 03 and BBYC 06 courses, was comprised of a majority of five The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows. Two TMS Nacra 17s made up the remainder of the fleet.

ViV (vivipezz Resident), Laured (laured Cabassoun), and Jackson (Jacquimo Resident), all finished tied with 7 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

On the dock: Daenerys, Cryptic, Joshua, Arwen, Nenrio, and Red.

Calm sailing weather and a nice spectator turnout features during this weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club IF Star 25R Regatta. The Bingo Strait regions returned to their characteristic calm behavior as the two DNFs (Did Not Finish) on the day were due to a boat collision at the start line. The regatta continues to draw spectators as crowds again gathered on the committee boat dock in the Woodfall region and the spectator area in the Twice Bitten region. This weeks fleet was comprised of a majority of six The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class. Two Bandit 25Rs made up the remainder of the fleet.

As a note, five sailors were disqualified (DSQ) from the first race for failing to round the green buoy in the Farragut region, which is a course mark listed on the course map and in the USB navigation card. We would like to remind everyone to get to the races early, giving yourselves time to familiarize yourself with the days courses and plan your racing lines.
