This weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club IF Star 25R Regatta featured great sailing sim weather with some finicky course obstacles. The regions of the Bingo Strait continued their recent trend of smooth sim behavior as no DNFs (Did Not Finish) on the day were attributed to sim conditions. The DNFs that did happen, one in each race, were due to water obstacles, in both cases the ram of the LL Roman ship build in the Nimitz region. The lesson here is to prepare as much as you can before hand and learn the area you are sailing in to acclimate to the water obstacles present. This weeks fleet, sailing on the BBYC 01 and BBYC 11 courses, was comprised of a majority of three Bandit 25Rs with two Bandit IFs making up the remainder.

Race Notes:
Moon (moonglownight Resident) and Astrid (AstridNewBonham Resident) finished tied with 3 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Wind: SE (135°) 18kts

Note:
Did Not Finish (DNF) = number of finish +1
Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start +1

Today’s winner was Ian (IanPixel Resident), with ViV (vivipezz Resident) second, and Laured (laured Cabassoun) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
In race 1, Astrid (AstridNewBonham Resident), Sandra (WWWAAAA Resident), and ViV (vivipezz Resident), were all disqualified (DSQ) for incorrect course as they missed the first course mark, the buoy at the corner of the Twice Bitten region.

In race 1, Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) was disqualified (DSQ) for incorrect course as he incorrectly rounded the lighthouse island in Melia region.

ViV (vivipezz Resident), Laured (laured Cabassoun), and Jackson (Jacquimo Resident), all finished tied with 7 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
vivipezz Resident 1 6
laured Cabassoun 2 5
Jacquimo Resident 3 4

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in ViV’s favor with having a first place finish over Laured’s second place finish and Jackson’s third place finish as their best. Subsequently, the tie further breaks in Laured’s favor with having a second place finish over Jackson’s third place best finish.

Moon (moonglownight Resident) and Sandra (WWWAAAA Resident) both finished tied with 12 points.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
moonglownight Resident 2 10
WWWAAAA Resident 6 6

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Moon’s favor with having a second place finish over Sandra’s sixth place finish as her best.

Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) and Astrid (AstridNewBonham Resident) both finished tied with 15 points. As they both have the exact same finishes in each race, a 6 point finish in the first race and 9 point finish in the second race respectively, neither Rule A8.1 nor Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing satisfy breaking the tie and as a result they remain tied with 15 points in 9th place.

Bandit IFs sail around the lighthouse in the Rodel region during the Backwater Bay Yacht Club Bandit Regatta on Monday, July 30th, 2018.

As with all things, change happens and is a force not unlike water and wind. This past week, The North Sea and The Eden Naturist Estate endured change. Elbag Gable, the owner of both estates, has fallen ill. In his absence, the Fruit Islands estate will be guiding the Eden Naturist Estate. However, The North Sea estate will come to an end. Due to the removal of all full regions in Eden and North Sea, and the removal of the Poseidon Sailing Centre and racing infrastructure, the North Sea Racing program will move to Backwater Bay Yacht Club. Backwater Bay is also owned by Elbag Gable, on the mainland region of Woodfall. North Sea Racing will operate under the Backwater Bay Yacht Club banner with all races in our program moving to the Woodfall region. In the coming weeks this website will also change to reflect the name change. In the future, we will be updating the course used to determine our handicap times and thus also update the times accordingly. Until that time, the current handicap times will still be valid. And now on to what you came here for, race results…

Some pretty smooth sailing weather and a very warm cheerful crowd featured in this weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Bandit Regatta. The protected water regions of the Bingo Strait behaved well for the fleet as we held the first Bandit Regatta at the Backwater Bay Yacht Club, in Woodfall. The crowd was wonderful as it gathered along the docks in both the Twice Bitten and Woodfall regions as well as the small race dock at the race line. This weeks fleet was composed of a majority of seven Bandit IFs with one lone Bandit 25.

The fleet gets underway during the second race of the Backwater Bay Yacht Club Bandit Regatta on Monday, July 30th, 2018.
