This weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Open Regatta featured nice sim sailing weather along with a great spectator turnout. The regions in Bingo Strait were well behaved for the most part as only one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day, Lampoon crashing on the final leg of BBYC Olympic Race Course (Long) during the small boat portion. As a result, the crowds gathered along the villa pier front in the Twice Bitten region and along the break wall in the Woodfall region were witness to some great racing throughout both portions of the Regatta.

This weeks small boat fleet, racing on BBYC Olympic Race Course (Long), was comprised of an equal mix of two Bandit 25Rs, two Bandif IFs, and two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, racing on the BBYC 12 course, was comprised of a majority of four Wildwind Open 60s. One TMS Volvo Open 70 and one TMS Ushuaia made up the remainder of the big boat fleet.

The Second Life Status page messages just before the start of the Backwater Bay Open Regatta, that prevented and also crashed residents across Second Life™ on Wednesday, March 20th, 2019. #justSLthings

The conditions for the Backwater Bay Yacht Club Open Regatta were anything but pleasant. The Second Life™ platform was going through emergency maintenance to its login servers which in effect either crashed most who were logged in at the time, or prevented others from logging in. Yet, we still had several show up to race and even watch. Red was able to bring out her Bandit IF, Donkey, along with Nihiwatu, who had her own Bandit IF. The big boat portion of the regatta was abandoned as it was evident that the ongoing maintenance was preventing anyone from attending due to restricted login access, see Login Maintenance and Host Upgrade from the Second Life Status page.

Excellent sim sailing weather and a great fleet turnout featured during this weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Open Regatta. The regions in Bingo Strait behaved well as not a single DNF (Did Not Finish) was a result from bad crossings or crashing. The only DNF on the day was due to a sailor pulling their boat three regions from the finish line and leaving. A small crowd turned out to witness both races from both the committee boat dock in the Woodfall region and at the lighthouse islands in the Nimitz and Rodel regions.

This weeks small boat fleet, racing on the BBYC 05 course, was comprised of a majority of five The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows. Two Bandit 25Rs, one Bandit IF, and one TMS Nacra 17 made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, racing on the BBYC W1 course, was comprised of two Wildwind Open 60s, one Wildwind RC-45r, one ACA33, one TMS Volvo Open 70, one TMS One Design 65, and one TMS Ushuaia.

This weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Open Regatta featured smooth sim sailing weather with a nice fleet turnout. The regions in Bingo Strait returned to their normally smooth sim sailing conditions, after two turbulent weeks of rough crossings and poor region lag, as the two DNFs (Did Not Finish) on the day were due to a lost skipper and another skipper’s boat scripts ceasing to function. Spectators enjoyed the fleet racing, as they gathered along the pier front of the villa in the Twice Bitten region, and also along the light house pier in the Rodel region.

This weeks small boat fleet, racing on the newly created BBYC 13 course, was comprised of four The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows. Three Bandit IFs, and one Bandit 25r made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. This weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Open Regatta saw some great sim sailing weather turn stormy. The Bingo Strait regions continued their recent two week trend of Jekyll and Hyde region behavior with the lone DNF (Did Not Finish) on the day, during the big boat portion, the result of the Farragut region eating Joshua, his boat, a The Mesh Shop (TMS) Ushuaia, and his crew, Jaslyn. Joshua and Jaslyn would reappear several minutes later, with his boat apparently still residing in Farragut’s belly. The small boat portion saw no region crossing troubles as everyone finished.

This weeks small boat fleet, racing on the BBYC 03 course, was comprised of slim majority of two Bandit IFs. One Quest 2m, one TMS Flying Shadow, and one Bandit 25r made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, racing on the BBYC Lighthouse Race course, was comprised entirely of two TMS Ushuaias. A third boat, a Wildwind AC-45, had attempted to setup for the big boat portion however her race ID would not display on her hulls, after repeated attempts to set race wind, and therefore was not allowed to race*.

*As a note, Wildwind boats display their race ID on their hulls when race wind from a WWC setter is set. If a Wildwind created boat cannot display it’s race ID on its hull, then it won’t be allowed to race in a BBYC race as it can’t be verified that it is indeed using the race wind set by the race director and therefore racing fairly against the other boats in the fleet.

JoshuaMason7 Resident 2 2

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie first breaks in Nikki’s and Red’s favor with having a first place finish over Joshua’s second place finish as his best. Subsequently, to further break the remaining tie between Nikki and Red, as they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
Nikki Lacrima 3 1

On the dock: Joshua, Cryptic, Wyndi, Max, and Xarabethe.

Stormy to clearing sim sailing weather and another great spectator turnout featured during this weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Open Regatta. The regions in Bingo Strait were up to finicky business as the two DNFs (Did Not Finish) on the day, during the small boat portion of the regatta, were the cause of repeated border disconnects. A third sailor experienced continued disconnections but through the resilience of her crew, was able to re-board her boat each time and finish both races. Meanwhile, other sailors in the fleet saw nothing but smooth seas highlighting a Jekyll and Hyde experience on the water. A great crowd of spectators, packing the committee boat dock in the Woodfall region and the pier front of the slips in the Woodfall region harbor, took it all in.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing 3 laps on the newly created BBYC Small Loop course, was comprised of a small majority of three Bandit 25Rs. Two Bandit IFs, one The Mesh Shop (TMS) Nacra 17, and one TMS Flying Shadow made up the remainder of the small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing 2 laps on the also newly created BBYC Long Loop course, was comprised of a majority of two TMS One Design 65s. One TMS Ushuaia and one Wildwind AC-45 made up the remainder of the big boat fleet.

Race Notes:
During the small boats portion, Max (Maximiliano Szondi) failed to round the final mark of the course on the final lap, the green starboard buoy of the race line, incorrectly crossed the line in the wrong direction therefore resulting in a disqualification (DSQ) for incorrect course.

Callie (SheCallie Resident) and Cole (Colette Verino) finished tied with 5 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

In the last race, Callie breaks the tie with Cole with her second place finish over Cole’s third place finish.

As they all finished with the exact same finishes in each race, neither Rule A8.1 or Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking their tie. Therefore, they remain tied in fifth place overall.

This weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Open Regatta saw some calm sim sailing weather with a nice fleet turnout. The regions of Bingo Strait behaved well as only one of the three DNFs (Did Not Finish) on the day was directly attributed to a bad region crossing. The other two DNFs were from both sailors pulling their boats early from sailing both an incorrect course and frustration with their own boat.

The fleet turnout this week was nice as the small boat fleet, sailing on BBYC Olympic Course (Long), was comprised of a slim majority of three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows. This weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Open Regatta showcased a great crowd of spectators and sailors with smooth sailing weather. Spectators turned out in force again as the water front to the villa in the Twice Bitten region was crowded as well as the spectator pier and committee boat dock in the Woodfall region. A great fleet turnout with temperamental sailing weather featured during this weeks Backwater Bay Yacht Club Open Regatta. Fleet turnout was wonderful as thirteen small boats participated during the small boat portion and ten big boats participated in the big portion of the regatta. Likewise, spectators continued the recent trend of packing the committee boat dock in the Woodfall region and the waterfront of the villa in the Twice Bitten region. Bingo Strait sailing weather started off well but took a down turn during the big boat portion as five DNFs (Did Not Finish) were claimed due to crashes.

Both fleets this week, featured a wide variety of boat models with no clear majority in either fleet. This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the BBYC 03 course, was comprised of three Bandit IFs, three Bandit 25Rs, three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Nacra 17s, three TMS Flying Shadows, and one lone TMS Star Class. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the BBYC 06 course, was comprised of two Wildwind AC45s, two Wildwind Open 60s, two TMS Volvo Open 70s, two TMS Ushuaias and one lone Bandit 50R.
