Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea regions were generally well behaved as three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. One DNF, recorded during the small boat portion, was from a skipper having computer issues causing a reboot in the middle of the race. The remaining two DNFs, also recorded during the small boat portion, were from skippers crashing while crossing over region corners. The crowds that gathered on the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, delighted in an entertaining display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.
This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was made up of a majority of seven Bandit 22 LTEs. One Bandit 25R, one Quest M-24, one The Mesh Shop (TMS) Nacra 17, and one crewed TMS Star Class rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Butterfly course, was made up of a majority of five TMS I-Mocca 60s. One TMS One Design 65, one TMS Volvo Open 70, and one WildWind RC-44r rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.
Note: As of the publication of these results, the handicap value for the Quest M-24 has been adjusted to 0.93, up from 0.92. Please see North Sea Handicap Table for our handicaps and the Google Sheet used to make those calculations.

Second Note:: With the onset of DST in the United States, Canada, and most of Mexico, SL time (PDT) is now one hour ahead. However, Europe will not be entering EU Summer Time until Sunday, March 26th. In order to facilitate that our races are still at a friendly time for our sailors, we will be running our races one SL hour later, but still at the same time GMT/CET.

Today’s winner was ViV (vivipezz Resident), with Jenna (jnx1e Resident) second, and Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.
Race Notes:
Cate (Cate Sewell) and Anthony (AnthonyKingston Resident) registered as a team prior to the start of the race, therefore their points are accredited together.
Sandra (Sandra Nebula) was disqualified during the big boat portion for sailing an incorrect course, missing the first course mark, the blue buoy in the Sapote Region.
Anthony Kingston (anthonykingston Resident) was disqualified during the big boat portion for sailing an incorrect course, missing the fourth course mark, sailing south of the the blue buoy in the Sapote Region instead of north of it.
Markis (Marcus Schechter) and Cate & Anthony (Cate Sewell & Anthony) both finished tied with 14 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Markis’s favor with having a sixth place finish over Cate & Anthony’s seventh place finish as their best.
