The first North Sea Bandit IF Regatta for March, 2023, took place on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. We had seven bandit IFs at the start. One bandit IF had crew on board. We were back in the Dragonfruit region.

Jack took the lead in the first race. Followed by Julie, and Siri. With the southeast wind, everyone sailed straight for Satsuma’s island. This required two tacks to get to the first mark. Jack had miscalculated and Julie took over. Moon had already passed Siri and gave chase to Jack. At the lighthouse in the Raisin region, Moon had already caught up with Jack. Siri and Rugger had connected with Jack. This created a group. At the turning point, Julie and Moon had a big lead over the group. The group would compete for third place.

During the second race, Julie took the lead. She was chased by Moon, Jack and Siri. After the first mark, Julie and Moon took a lead. Behind them there was another battle for third place. It later turned out that they were fighting for second place

There were two DNFs (Did Not Finish) and one DSQ (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Race Director: Daenerys
Assistant Race Director: Cryptic

Wind: 120 (SEbE) 18kts

Wind: 115° (ESE) 18kts

Note:
Did Not Finish (DNF) = number of finish +1
Disqualified (DSQ) = number of finish + number of DNFs + 1
Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start +

Today’s winners were Moon (Moonglownight Resident), with Siri (Sirius Rosca) second, and Jack (Jacquimo Resident) in third place.

Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:

Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) was disqualified (DSQ) during the second race for sailing an incorrect course, missing the first course mark, the northwestern island in the Crowberry region.

Siri (Sirius Rosca) and Jack (Jacquimo Resident) both finished tied with 6 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Sirius Rosca 2 4
Jacquimo Resident 3 3

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Siri’s favor with having a second place finish over Jack’s third place finish as his best.

Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) and Red (RedHeadJO Resident) both finished tied with 10 points.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
ruggeromare Resident 4 6
RedHeadJO Resident 5 5

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Rugger’s favor with having a fourth place finish over Red’s fifth place finish as her best.
