Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were calm for most as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The first DNF, occurring during the second race, was from a skipper crashing she crossed over region corners. The later DNF, also occurring during the second race, was from a skipper crashing as she crossed over the border between the Mammea and Muskmelon regions. The crowds that gathered on the beaches on the islands in the Ziziphus, and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, enjoyed an eager display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long) and the North Sea 107 courses, was made up of a majority of ten Bandit 22 LTEs. One Bandit IF rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Today’s winner was Sirius (Sirius Rosca), with Moon (moonglownight Resident) second, and Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.
Race Notes:
Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) and Nicole (Nicole Myhre) both finished the second race tied at the finishing line with a time of 11:11. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:
“If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.“
Therefore, both Rugger and Nicole receive 1.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 1 and 2, added together and divided equally.
Alejandro (Boogie Aeghin) was disqualified (DSQ) during the second race for finishing under protest while failing to complete a 360° panelty turn due to a Rule 18.2 Giving Mark-Room foul.
“18.2 Giving Mark-Room
(b) If boats are overlapped when the first of them reaches the zone, the outside boat at that moment shall
thereafter give the inside boat mark-room. If a boat is clear ahead when she reaches the zone,
the boat clear astern at that moment shall thereafter give her mark-room.“

Jenna (jnx1e Resident), Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook), and Sea (filax Carter) all finished tied with 10 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“
Skipper | Best Finish | Next Best Finish |
jnx1e Resident | 1 | 9 |
Emileigh Starbrook | 3 | 7 |
filax Carter | 5 | 5 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Jenna’s favor with having a first place finish over Emileigh’s third place, and Sea’s fifth place finishes as their best.
Cole (ColeBatriani Resident) and Ester (citacg Resident) both finished tied with 16 points.
ColeBatriani Resident | 6 | 10 |
citacg Resident | 8 | 8 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Cole’s favor with having a sixth place finish over Ester’s eighth place finish as her best.
