After being away for a week we are back with the first North Sea Bandit IF Regatta for February, 2023. We had three races scheduled today. Nevertheless, we had six Bandit IFs at the start. Today’s starts would give some problems because we had to sail with a completely different wind direction than usual.

The three races were exciting and the skippers were evenly matched. This would make the decision fall in the last race.

There were two DNFs (Did Not Finish) and one DSQ (Disqualified) through all three races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Race Director: Daenerys
Assistant Race Directors: Tarmarushka, and Cryptic

Wind: 280 (WbN) 18kts

Wind: 285° (WNW) 18kts

Wind: 285° (WNW) 18kts

Note:
Did Not Finish (DNF) = number of finish +1
Disqualified (DSQ) = number of finish + number of DNFs + 1
Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start +1

Today’s winners were Julie (JulieRoyale Resident), with Moon (Moonglownight Resident) second, and Jack (Jacquimo Resident) in third place.

Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
Siri (Sirius Rosca) was disqualified (DSQ) during the first race for finishing under protest while failing to complete a 360° penalty turn due to a Rule 11 On The Same Tack, Overlapped foul at the start, colloquially known as barging.

“11 ON THE SAME TACK, OVERLAPPED
When boats are on the same tack and overlapped, a windward boat shall keep clear of a leeward boat.“

Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) and Moon (moonglownight Resident) both finished tied with 3 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2 Race 3
JulieRoyale Resident 2 2 1
moonglownight Resident 3 1 2

In the last race, Julie breaks the tie with Moon with her first place finish over Moon’s second place finish.
