The last North Sea Bandit IF Regatta in 20221 took place on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in December. We started with five bandit IFs. We had a great start and Julie took the lead right away. Julie was followed by Ryan, Red, Siri, and Rugger. Julie distanced herself from the other four skippers right from the start. At the first mark, the foursome was shuffled. Ryan had the best papers, but Siri and Red showed they were cut from the better cloth and took over second place. This dropped Ryan back to fourth place. But Rugger was still lurking. Julie, meanwhile, was far away. Siri and Red battled for second place. Both gave no inch of width. Rugger had caught up with Ryan, but the latter continued to fight as well. At mark 12 things went wrong for Rugger. He sailed the mark on the wrong side. Going into the second lap, Julie was still leading. Followed by Reed and Siri. Ryan had crashed and Rugger was in fourth, but he hadn’t realized the race had two rounds, so he retired after he had completed the first round. Meanwhile, Julie and Siri had crashed entering the Satsuma region. This put Red in charge. Both skippers were able to find their boat so they could sail out of the race.
There was one DNF (Did Not Finish) and one DSQ (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.
1Note: The North Sea Bandit Regatta, North Sea Open Regatta, Cat Fight, and Bandit IF Regatta are postponed until the new year. The North Sea will be taking a holiday break over the Christmas and New Years weeks. Full races in The North Sea will resume on Monday, January 2nd, 2023.
