Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. With a moderate breeze of 15 knots out of the southwest, turning to a fresh breeze of 18 knots from the northwest during the second race, The North Sea regions were generally well behaved as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The first DNF was from a skipper pulling his boat during the first race after navigation HUD issues. The remaining DNF was from a skipper crashing as she crossed over region corners during the second race. The crowds that gathered on the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on the festive fleet-foiled feline frenzy on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Trapezoid and the North Sea Cat Fight 01 courses, was made up of five The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, four sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively. One TMS Nacra 17 rounded out this weeks catamaran fleet.

Today’s winner was Daenerys (blondij Resident), with Sin (Sinarielle Resident) second, and ViV (vivipezz Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.
Race Notes:
Sin (Sinarielle Resident) and ViV (vivipezz Resident) finished tied with 5 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“
Skipper | Race 1 | Race 2 |
Sinarielle Resident | 3 | 2 |
vivipezz Resident | 2 | 3 |
In the last race, Sin breaks the tie with ViV with her second place finish over ViV’s third place finish.

Congrats to Dae who sailed perfectly both races and to Sin&Cloe for taking advantage of my late start in race 2 and placing 2nd despite the handicap for FS Duo making it hard to compete with the FS solos. Nevertheless, I do have to flagellate myself a bit after shooting myself repeatedly in the foot with some poor blunders. In race 1, Dae resisted all race long to my pushing and probing behind her, then I made the poor gybe in the penultimate leg and let her fly to victory. Cherries on the cake: I hit the last mark as I was looking at the map to try one last move… Bummer! In the second race, I totally mistimed my start on the reach, and had to do a 360 before the line to prevent my taking an early start. Despite all my efforts, I could never catch up with the flawless Dae. Thanks y’all for another fun racing event. Special thanks to Cryptic for having us weeks in and weeks out. See you all in the new year. Have a safe and lovely Christmas! Cheers & Bon vent ;D
