Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted the first North Sea Open Regatta for December, 2022. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were mostly well behaved as one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. The lone DNF occurred during the small boat portion, as a skipper crashed while enter the Mammea region after rounding the third course mark. The crowds that gathered along the shores on the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on a fun display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.
This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Copacabana course, was made up of a majority of five Bandit 22 LTEs. Two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, two TMS Nacra 17s, two Bandit IFs, and one TMS Sea Boss Rider rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Butterfly course, was made up of a majority of three TMS I-Mocca 60s. One TMS One Design 65, one TMS Ocean Beach, one WildWind RC-44r, and one WildWind SC-40 rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Too bad for that DSQ… I was sailing along Ester, waiting for her to tack so I wouldn’t foul her, and I forgot about the 1st mark. She drove the 2 of us so far South… Anyway, my bad: I needed to look at the chart more closely. I love sailing the Butterfly course, but I hadn’t sailed it in a long while. It doesn’t change the pleasure I took sailing today, battling along Jenna, Moon and the others. Thanks for the races! See y’all next time ;D
