Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted the first North Sea Open Regatta for December, 2022. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were mostly well behaved as one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. The lone DNF occurred during the small boat portion, as a skipper crashed while enter the Mammea region after rounding the third course mark. The crowds that gathered along the shores on the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on a fun display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Copacabana course, was made up of a majority of five Bandit 22 LTEs. Two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, two TMS Nacra 17s, two Bandit IFs, and one TMS Sea Boss Rider rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Butterfly course, was made up of a majority of three TMS I-Mocca 60s. One TMS One Design 65, one TMS Ocean Beach, one WildWind RC-44r, and one WildWind SC-40 rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Today’s winner was Aymalie (Aymalie Resident), with Jenna (jnx1e Resident) second, and Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and the SLCG for helping with race duties.

Race Notes:
ViV (vivipezz Resident) was disqualified (DSQ) during the big boat portion for sailing an incorrect course, missing the first course mark, the blue buoy in the Sapote region.


Ester (citacg Resident) was disqualified (DSQ) during the big boat portion for sailing an incorrect course, missing the first course mark, the blue buoy in the Sapote region.


Jenna (jnx1e Resident) and Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) both finished tied with 6 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Jenna’s favor with having a first place finish over Emileigh’s second place finish as her best.


Moon (moonglownight Resident) and Lilita (lilita Cifuentes) both finished tied with 14 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Xiao (XiaoMarque01 Resident) and Sirius (Sirius Rosca) both finished tied with 15 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

  1. Too bad for that DSQ… I was sailing along Ester, waiting for her to tack so I wouldn’t foul her, and I forgot about the 1st mark. She drove the 2 of us so far South… Anyway, my bad: I needed to look at the chart more closely. I love sailing the Butterfly course, but I hadn’t sailed it in a long while. It doesn’t change the pleasure I took sailing today, battling along Jenna, Moon and the others. Thanks for the races! See y’all next time ;D
