Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted the first North Sea Bandit Regatta for November, 2022. With a moderate breeze of 11 knots out of the southwest, rising to 15 knots during the second race, The North Sea regions were well behaved as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. Both DNFs were attributed to skippers crashing while crossing over region corners. The crowds that gathered on the lighthouse observation deck of the island in the Ziziphus region, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, reveled in a peppy display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Olympic Short Reverse and North Sea WC Reach 2 courses, was made up of a majority of eight Bandit 22 LTEs. Four Bandit IFs, three sailing single-handed and once crewed respectively, rounded out his weeks Bandit fleet.

Today’s winner was Moon (moonglownight Resident), with Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) second, and Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.
Race Notes:
Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) and Moon (moonglownight Resident) both finished the second race tied at the finishing line with a time of 12:14. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:
“If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.“
Therefore, both Emileigh and Moon receive 1.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 1 and 2, added together and divided equally.
Sirius (Sirius Rosca) and Cilian (Cilian McCullough) both finished tied with 13 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Sirius’s favor with having a fifth place finish over Cilian’s sixth place finish as his best.
Max (Max Starostin), Emilio (emiliopc7 Resident), and Sea (filax Carter) all finished tied with 185 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“
