Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. With a moderate breeze of 11 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were mostly behaved as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The first DNF, occurring during the first race, was from a skipper pulling her boat on the first leg. The remaining DNF, occurring during the second race, was due to a skipper crashing while crossing over region corners. The crowds that gathered on the lighthouse observation deck of the island in the Ziziphus region, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on a great display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea 01 and North Sea 02 courses, was made up of a majority of six Bandit 22 LTEs. Four Bandit IFs, three sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively, rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Today’s winner was Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook), with Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) second, and Cilian (Cilian McCullough) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.

Race Notes:
Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) and Moon (moonglownight Resident) both finished the first race tied at the finishing line with a time of 12:54. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Therefore, both Rugger and Moon receive 1.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 1 and 2, added together and divided equally.

Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) and Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) both finished the first race tied at the finishing line with a time of 13:05.

Therefore, both Emileigh and Zimtzicke receive 3.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 3 and 4, added together and divided equally.

Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) and Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) both finished tied with 4.5 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Emileigh Starbrook 1 3.5
ruggeromare Resident 1.5 3

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Emileigh’s favor with having a 1 point finish over Rugger’s 1.5 point finish as his best.
