Great sim sailing weather, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. With a moderate breeze of 15 knots out of the southwest, rising to a fresh breeze of 18 knots during the second race, The North Sea regions were well behaved as one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. The lone DNF, occurring during the first race, was from a skipper sailing to the race dock instead of the finish line, claiming he missed a mark, although he did race a correct course as witnessed by race staff. The crowds that gathered on the beaches of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, reveled in a competitive display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea SS-01 and North Sea 107 courses, was made up of a split majority of four Bandit 22 LTEs, and four Bandit IFs, three sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively. One Bandit 25R rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Today’s winner was Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre), with Sea (filax Carter) second, and Sirius (Sirius Rosca) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.

Race Notes:
Sea (filax Carter), Sirius (Sirius Rosca), and Red (RedHeadJO Resident) all finished tied with 7 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
filax Carter 2 5
Sirius Rosca 2 5
RedHeadJO Resident 3 4

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Sea’s and Sirius’s favor with having second place finishes over Red’s third place finish as her best.

As Sea and Sirius both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this remaining tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
filax Carter 5 2
Sirius Rosca 2 5

In the last race, Sea breaks the tie with Sirius with her second place finish over Sirius’s fifth place finish.
