Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were well behaved as no DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The crowds that gathered on the beaches of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on the frantic fleet-foiled feline furor on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Manta Reverse and North Sea Torpedo courses, was made up of seven The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, six sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively, during the first race. For the second race, one skipper opted to switch to their WildWind AC-62 instead.

Race Notes:
Moon (moonglownight Resident), Sin (Sinarielle Resident), and Daenerys (blondij Resident) all finished tied with 7 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
moonglownight Resident 2 5
Sinarielle Resident 3 4
blondij Resident 3 4

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Moon’s favor with having a second place finish over Sin’s and Daenerys’s third place finishes as their best.

As Sin and Daenerys both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this remaining tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
Sinarielle Resident 4 3
blondij Resident 3 4

In the last race, Sin breaks the tie with Daenerys with her third place finish over Daenerys’s fourth place finish.

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.
