Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted the first North Sea Bandit Regatta for September, 2022. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were generally well behaved as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The first DNF, occurring during the first race, was due to a skipper crashing while crossing across region corners. The second DNF, also occurring during the first race, was due to a skipper pulling his boat on the second leg after he stated his boat messed up. The crowds that gathered on the shores of the island in the Ziziphus region, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, delighted in a thrilling display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long) and the North Sea Trapezoid course, was made up of a majority of eight Bandit 22 LTEs. One crewed Bandit IF rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet in the first race. Two skippers stepped away, with an additional Bandit IF, and another Bandit 22 LTE taking their place in the second race.

Race Director: Cryptic
Assistant Race Directors: Daenerys, and Tamarushka

Note:
Did Not Finish (DNF) = number of finish +1
Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start +1

Today’s winner was Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook), with Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) second, and Moon (moonglownight Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.

Race Notes:
Ester (citacg Resident), Diana (Dianafra Allen), and Max (Maximiliano Szondi) all finished tied with 13 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
citacg Resident 3 10
Dianafra Allen 5 8
Maximiliano Szondi 6 7

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Ester’s favor with having a third place finish over Diana’s fifth place, and Max’s sixth place finishes as their best.

Kovu (Kovu Galliard) and Niem (NiemDarr Resident) both finished tied with 18 points. As they both have the exact same finishes, a DNF (Did Not Finish) during the first race and a DNS (Did Not Start) during the second race respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking this tie. Therefore, Kovu and Niem remain tied in tenth place overall.
