Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were well behaved again, as one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. The lone DNF, occurring during the second race, was attributed to a skipper crashing as he crossed over region corners. The crowds that gathered on the shores of the island in the Ziziphus region, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, reveled in an energetic display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Half Mane and North Sea Copacabana courses, was made up of a majority of seven Bandit 22 LTEs. Two Bandit IFs, one sailing crewed and one single-handed respectively, one Bandit 25r, and one Bandit 50/3 rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Today’s winner was Julie (JulieRoyale Resident), with Moon (moonglownight Resident) second, and Ester (citacg Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.

Race Notes:
Moon (moonglownight Resident) and Ester (citacg Resident) both finished the first race tied at the finishing line with a time of 15:30. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Therefore, both Moon and Ester receive 6.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 6 and 7, added together and divided equally.

Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) and Sea (filax Carter) finished tied with 9 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
Nicole Myhre 5 4
filax Carter 4 5

In the last race, Zimtzicke breaks the tie with Sea with her fourth place finish over Sea’s fifth place finish.

Red (RedHeadJO Resident) and Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) both finished tied with 14 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Rulette Resident 3 11
RedHeadJO Resident 6 8

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Red’s favor with having a third place finish over Emileigh’s sixth place finish as her best.
