Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions were well behaved again, as one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. The lone DNF was due to a skipper pulling her boat during the first race after her connection acted up. The crowds that gathered on the lighthouse observation deck on the island in the Ziziphus region, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, delighted in a great display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Olympic Short Reverse and North Sea WC Reach 2 courses, was made up of a majority of seven Bandit 22 LTEs. Three Bandit IFs, two sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Note:
Did Not Finish (DNF) = number of finish +1
Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start +1

Today’s winner was Sea (filax Carter), with Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) second, and Asher (AsherZacharias Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.

Race Notes:
Fil (Filmore Dash) was disqualified (DSQ) during the first race due to sailing an incorrect course, not rounding the last course mark, the blue buoy in the Sapote region.

Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) and Asher (AsherZacharias Resident) both finished tied with 5 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Nicole Myhre 1 4
AsherZacharias Resident 2 3

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Zimtzicke’s favor with having a first place finish over Asher’s second place finish as his best.

Diana (Dianafra Allen) and Emilio (emiliopc7 Resident) finished tied with 15 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
Dianafra Allen 8 7
emiliopc7 Resident 7 8

In the last race, Diana breaks the tie with Emilio with her seventh place finish over Emilio’s eighth place finish.

Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) and Fil (Filmore Dash) finished tied with 18 points. As they both have the exact same finishes from each race, 9 point finishes in both races respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking their tie. Therefore, Emileigh and Fil remain tied in ninth place overall.
