Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted the first Cat Fight in The North Sea for August, 2022. With a moderate breeze of 15 knots out of the southwest, building to a fresh breeze of 18 knots during the second race, The North Sea regions were generally well behaved as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. Script issues were behind both DNFs, one in each race, as skippers pulled their boats in both instances, when their boat scripts stopped responding. The crowds that gathered on the beaches of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on the frantic fleet-foiled feline flurry on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Half Mane and North Sea Extreme Reverse courses, was made up of a majority of five The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, four sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively. One WildWind AC-62, and one WildWind AC-45 rounded out this weeks catamaran fleet in the first race. The second race saw a slight shakeup with the original AC-62 skipper opting for her AC-45, and a Flying Shadow skipper opting for his AC-62 instead.

Today’s winner was Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook), with Max (Max Starostin) second, and Daenerys (blondij Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.
Race Notes:
Sirius (Sirius Rosca) and Sea (filax Carter) both finished tied with 9 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“
Skipper | Best Finish | Next Best Finish |
Sirius Rosca | 3 | 6 |
filax Carter | 4 | 5 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Sirius’s favor with having a third place finish over Sea’s fourth place finish as her best.
