Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted the first North Sea Open Regatta for August, 2022. The North Sea regions were well behaved as one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. The lone DNF was attributed to a skipper crashing while crossing over region corners during the small boat portion. The crowds that gathered along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on a thrilling display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.
This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Copacabana course, was made up of a majority of four Bandit 22 LTEs. Two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class, one sailing crewed and one single-handed, and two Bandit IFs, one crewed and one single-handed, rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea CCW (counter-clockwise) course, was made up of a majority of four TMS I-Mocca 60s. One WildWind Open 60, one WildWind RC-44r, and one WildWind AC-62 rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.
