Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted the first North Sea Bandit Regatta for August, 2022. The North Sea regions were generally well behaved as four DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. Three DNFs were due to skippers crashing while crossing over region corners. The remaining DNF was due to a skipper’s router causing him connection issues during the second race, resulting in him pulling his boat. The crowds that gathered on the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on a competitive display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea 02 and North Sea 01 courses, was made up of a majority of seven Bandit 22 LTEs. Two Bandit IFs, split evenly with one crewed and one single-handed respectively, rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Ester (citacg Resident) and Sirius (Sirius Rosca) finished tied with 9 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“

In the last race, Ester breaks the tie with Sirius with her fourth place finish over Sirius’s fifth place finish.
