The last North Sea Bandit IF Regatta for July, 2022, took place on another beautiful Saturday afternoon. We started with six Bandit IFs. A compact fleet of five Bandit Ifs sailed to the first turning point. Here two skippers took a slight lead over the fleet. On the way to the west, a third skipper joined the leaders. One of the front runners sailed away from his companions and the remaining two skippers competed for second place.

The second race we left with six Bandit IFs. On the way to the first mark a skipper broke down and had to let the fleet go. The remaining skippers slowly dispersed between the islands of Fruit. At the turning point in the south, the entire fleet scattered and we were left with lone skippers. However, there was still a fight in the tail for fifth place. In the last leg, two skippers came close to each other and competed for third place. This battle would last until the finish line.

There were no DNFs (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Note:
Did Not Finish (DNF) = number of finish +1
Disqualified (DSQ) = number of finish + number of DNFs + 1
Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start +1

Today’s winners were Moon (Moonglownight Resident), with Zero (Sleet Zero) second, and Jack (Jacquimo Resident) in third place.

Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
Zero (Sleet Zero) and Jack (Jacquimo Resident) both finished tied with 6 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Sleet Zero 2 4
Jacquimo Resident 3 3

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Zero’s favor with having a second place finish over Jack’s third place finish as his best.
