Great sim sailing weather, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this years US Memorial Day edition of the North Sea Bandit Regatta. With a gentle breeze of 8 knots out of the southwest, rising to a moderate breeze of 11 knots during the second race, The North Sea regions were well behaved as one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. The lone DNF was due to a new skipper pulling his boat in the second race after misunderstanding how to setup their navigation HUD for a multi-lap race. The crowds that gathered on the lighthouse observation deck on the island in the Ziziphus region, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Jakana region, delighted in an electric display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Short) and a two lap affair on the North Sea Short Loop course, was made up of a majority of seven Bandit 22 LTEs. Two Bandit IFs, one sailing single-handed and one crewed respectively, and one Bandit 25r rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet in the first race. A Bandit IF skipper opted to switch to his Bandit 22 for the second race.

Today’s winner was Sea (filax Carter), with Emi (Emileigh Starbrook) second, and Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.
Race Notes:
Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) and Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) both finished the second race tied at the finishing line with a time of 13:49. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:
“If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.“
Therefore, both Zimtzicke and Rugger receive 5.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 5 and 6, added together and divided equally.
