Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea regions were well behaved as one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded on the day. The lone DNF was due to a skipper crossing across region corners during the small boat portion. The crowds that gathered on the lighthouse observation deck on the island in the Ziziphus region, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, reveled in a great display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing a three lap affair on the North Sea Short Loop course, was made up of majority of seven Bandit 22 LTEs. One crewed The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadow, and one TMS Sea Boss – Rider rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was made up of a majority of three TMS I-Mocca 60s. One WildWind RC-44r, one WildWind SC-40, and one ACA33 rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Big boat fleet, from the left (in boats): Anthony and Cate (TMS I-Mocca 60), Emileigh (WildWind RC-44r), Ester and Yola (TMS I-Mocca 60), Moon (TMS I-Mocca 60), Aymalie (WildWind SC-40), and Max (ACA33). On the Race Committee Boat: Cryptic. On the dock: Daenerys, Erin, Kassandra, Xiolin, and Loessina. On the pier: Tina, Sven, and Yuukie.

Aymalie (Aymalie Resident), Moon (moonglownight Resident), and Ester (citacg Resident) all finished tied with 6 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Aymalie Resident 1 5
moonglownight Resident 2 4
citacg Resident 3 3

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Aymalie’s favor with having a first place finish over Moon’s second place, and Ester’s third place finishes as their best.

Max (maxgreyman Resident) and Kassandra (kassandraa94 Resident) both finished tied with 11 points.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
maxgreyman Resident 1 10
kassandraa94 Resident 4 7

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Max’s favor with having a first place finish over Kassandra’s fourth place finish as her best.

Alex (Alex0730 Resident) and Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) both finished tied with 15 points. As they both finished with the same points in each race, 8 points in the small boat portion and 7 in the big boat portion respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking this tie. Therefore, Alex and Rugger remain tied in tenth place overall.
