This weeks North Sea Bandit IF Regatta too place on another beautiful Saturday afternoon in May. We started with seven Bandit IFs. One of the Bandit IFs had crew on board. The start of the first race went smoothly. Seven boats in a row would be heading for the first mark. After this mark, Moon and Julie had already taken a small lead over the fleet. They would fight to the finish to see who would be first, but they would finish at the same time.
We would start the second race with seven boats. The fleet was a little apart from the start. Rugger was in charge and was chased by Moon, Emi, and Julie. At the first island, Julie had bad luck and would fall back to fourth place. Moon, and Rugger went into battle and it was won by Moon. He would never relinquish control. Rugger and Emi would battle for second place.
There were no DNFs (Did Not Finish) and three DSQs (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Today’s winners were Moon (Moonglownight Resident), with Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) second, and Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) in third place.
Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.
Max (Maximiliano Szondi) was disqualified (DSQ) during the first race for sailing an incorrect course, missing the fourth course mark, sailing west of the waypoint in the Canistel region.
Max (Maximiliano Szondi) was disqualified (DSQ) during the second race for sailing an incorrect course, missing the tenth course mark, sailing south of the waypoint in the Canistel region.
Emi (Emileigh Starbrook) was disqualified (DSQ) during the second race for sailing an incorrect course, missing the fourth course mark, sailing south of the mark/gate in the Sloe region.
Moon (moonglownight Resident) and Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) both finished the first race tied at the finishing line with a time of 18:03. As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:
“If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.“
Therefore, both Moon and Julie receive 1.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 1 and 2, added together and divided equally.
Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) and Max (Max Starostin) both finished tied with 9 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“
|Skipper||Best Finish||Next Best Finish|
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Emileigh’s favor with having a third place finish over Max’s fourth place finish as his best.
