Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The North Sea regions were generally well behaved with two DNFs (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day. The first DNF happened during the first race, when a skipper crashed while crossing over region corners. The second DNF, occurring during the second race, was due to a skipper pulling his boat after his WildWind lost WWC wind. The crowds that gathered along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus, and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on the frenetic fleet-foiled feline frenzy on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Triple Pink and North Sea Extreme courses, was made up of a split majority of two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Nacra 17s, and two WildWind AC-62s. One TMS Flying Shadow, and one WildWind AC-45 rounded out this weeks catamaran fleet.

Today’s winner was Julie (JulieRoyale Resident), with Moon (moonglownight Resident) second, and Erin (clairehunt Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
Moon (moonglownight Resident), Erin (clairehunt Resident), and Sirius (Sirius Rosca) all finished tied with 7 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
moonglownight Resident 2 5
clairehunt Resident 3 4
Sirius Rosca 3 4

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Moon’s favor with having a second place finish over Erin’s and Sirius’s third place finishes as their best.

As Erin and Sirius both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this remaining tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
clairehunt Resident 4 3
Sirius Rosca 3 4

In the last race, Erin breaks the tie with Sirius with her third place finish over Sirius’s fourth place finish.
