Calm seas, with nice fleet turnouts, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were generally behaved as three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. Two DNFs were from skippers crossing across region corners. The remaining DNF was from a skipper’s connection dyeing on her near the finish of the small boat portion. The crowds that gathered on the beaches on the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, and along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Jakana region, reveled in an exciting display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.
This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Triple Pink course, was made up of a majority of six Bandit 22 LTEs. Three Bandit IFs, and two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class, split evenly with one single-handed and one crewed respectively, rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Torpedo course, was made up of a triple split majority of two ACA 33s, two WildWind Open 60s, and two TMS I-Mocca 60s. One TMS One Design 65, One Bandit 60, one Bandit 55, and one WildWind RC-44r rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Today’s winner was Julie (JulieRoyale Resident), with Jenna (jnx1e Resident) second, and Sea (filax Carter) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with racing duties.
Race Notes:
Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) and Jenna (jnx1e Resident) finished tied with 4 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“
Skipper | Race 1 | Race 2 |
JulieRoyale Resident | 3 | 1 |
jnx1e Resident | 1 | 3 |
In the last race, Julie breaks the tie with Jenna with her first place finish over Jenna’s third place finish.
Max (maxgreyman Resident) and Gryfin (Gryfin Goldshark) both finished tied with 14 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“
Skipper | Best Finish | Next Best Finish |
maxgreyman Resident | 2 | 12 |
Gryfin Goldshark | 6 | 8 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Max’s favor with having a second place finish over Gryfin’s sixth place finish as his best.
Why is dae not in the result list of the big boat race? I know she was in the fleet, because i hit her boat before my first tack.

I think you meant this for the results for April 20th, instead of the 13th?
