Calm seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The North Sea Regions were well behaved with no DNFs (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day. The crowds that assembled along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on the fleet-foiled feline fury on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Torpedo and North Sea Snipe courses, was made up of a majority of five The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, three sailing single-handed and two sailing crewed respectively. Two TMS Nacra 17s, and two WildWind AC-45s rounded out the catamaran fleet for the first race. For the second race, a Flying Shadow skipper opted to switch to their Nacra 17.

Race Notes:
Moon (moonglownight Resident) and Rayz (Rayzza Rubble) finished tied with 7 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
moonglownight Resident 4 3
Rayzza Rubble 3 4

In the last race, Moon breaks the tie with Rayz with his third place finish over Rayz’s fourth place finish.

Sea (filax Carter) and Gryfin (Gryfin Goldshark) both finished tied with 13 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
filax Carter 5 8
Gryfin Goldshark 6 7

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Sea’s favor with having a fifth place finish over Gryfin’s sixth place finish as his best.
