Calm seas, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. With a moderate breeze of 11 knots coming out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were well behaved for our skippers with just two DNFs (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day. The first DNF, occurring during the first race, was attributed to a skipper pulling his boat shortly after the start of the race due to getting stuck in irons. The second DNF, occurring during the second race, was due to a skipper pulling his boat after realizing he had an incorrect course loaded in his navigation HUD. The crowds that gathered on the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier and small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on an exciting display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea 01 and North Sea 02 courses, was made up of a majority of seven Bandit IFs, five sailing single-handed and two sailing crewed respectively. Six Bandit 22 LTEs, and one Bandit 25r rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Today’s winner was Moon (moonglownight Resident), with Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) second, and Sirius (Sirius Rosca) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.
Race Notes:
Sea (filax Carter) was disqualified (DSQ) during the second race for sailing an incorrect course, rounding the second course mark, the pink buoy in the Sloe region, counter-clockwise instead of clockwise.
Ester (citacg Resident) and Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) finished tied with 10 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“
Skipper | Race 1 | Race 2 |
citacg Resident | 6 | 4 |
Emileigh Starbrook | 4 | 6 |
In the last race, Ester breaks the tie with Emileigh with her fourth place finish over Emileigh’s sixth place finish.
Alex (Alex0730 Resident) and Diana (Dianafra Allen) both finished tied with 19 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“
Skipper | Best Finish | Next Best Finish |
Alex0730 Resident | 8 | 11 |
Dianafra Allen | 9 | 10 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Alex’s favor with having an eighth place finish over Diana’s ninth place finish as his best.
