Great sim sailing weather, with an excellent fleet turnout, highlighted the first North Sea Open Regatta of 2022. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots out of the southwest, The North Sea regions were calm for everyone as only three DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. All three DNFs occurred during the small boat portion due to skippers crashing while crossing over region corners. The crowds that gathered along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, as well as along the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on an exciting display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.
This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Bowline course, was made up of a majority of six Bandit 22 LTEs. Five Bandit IFs, three sailing single-handed and two sailing crewed respectively, one The Mesh Shop (TMS) Nacra 17, one TMS Laser One, one TMS Star Class, and one Isard Sjogin rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Circle course, was made up of a majority of four TMS I-Mocca 60s. Two WildWind Open 60s, one TMS One Design 65, one Bandit 60, one Bandit 55, and one Bandit 50/3 rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.
