The last North Sea Open Regatta1 for 2021 featured a great fleet turnout with nice sim sailing weather. The North Sea regions were on their best New Year’s behavior as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. The first DNF, occurring during the small boat portion, was due to a skipper’s router causing her to crash. After she reset her router, she was able to continue racing in the big boat portion. The second DNF, occurring during the big boat portion, was due to skipper crashing while crossing across region corners. The crowds that gathered along the beaches on the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, as well as on the small race dock and Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Jakana region, reveled in a spirited display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Manta course, was made up of a majority of seven Bandit 22 LTEs. Four Bandit IFs, three sailing single-handed and one sailing crewed respectively, rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Extreme course, was made up of a majority of five The Mesh Shop (TMS) I-Mocca 60s. One WildWind Open 60, one WildWind RC-44r, one TMS Pacha 110, one Bandit 50/3, and one Bandit 55 rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

1As is tradition in The North Sea, we are in the second week of our holiday break that started on Monday, December 20th, 2021, and continues through Saturday, January 1st, 2022. In the years past, we’ve held no races during the holiday weeks. This year, at the request of several skippers, we held our Open Regatta last week and today. All other North Sea races are postponed for the holidays. Our full racing schedule will resume on January 3rd, 2022. From everyone at North Sea Racing, we wish you a safe and happy holiday season.
