The last1 North Sea Bandit IF Regatta of 2021 took place on a beautiful December Saturday afternoon. Today, the races were held Eden Curlew. This time we had a fleet of seven Bandit IFs at the start. One Bandit IF had crew on board. The North Sea regions behaved well and there was not a cloud in the sky.

We sailed two races.  In the first race we started with compact fleet and sailed from Eden Curlew to Dragonfruit. In the second race we sailed to a small area of the fruit Islands.  Between the islands we lost three skippers.

We had three DNFs (Did Not Finish) and one DSQ (Disqualified) through all races and it was another successful and sporting day in The North Sea.

1As is tradition in The North Sea, we will be going on a holiday break starting Monday, December 20th, 2021, through Saturday, January 1st, 2022. In the years past, we have held no races during the holiday weeks. This year, at the request of several skippers, we will be holding our Open Regatta on Wednesday, December 22nd, and Wednesday, December, 29th. All other North Sea races will be postponed for the holidays. Our full racing schedule will resume on January 3rd, 2022. From everyone at North Sea Racing, we wish you a safe and happy holiday season.

Race Director: Daenerys
Assistant Race Director: Tamarushka, and Cryptic

Wind: 225° (SW) 18kts

Wind: 180° (S) 18kts

Note:
Did Not Finish (DNF) = number of finish + 1
Disqualified (DSQ) = number of finish + number of DNFs + 1
Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start + 1

Today’s winner was Moon (Moonglownight Resident), with Jack (Jacquimo Resident) second, and Siri (Sirius Rosca) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
Rugger (Ruggeromare Resident) was disqualified during the first race for sailing an incorrect course, missing the third course mark, the orange buoy in the Soncoya region.

Rugger (ruggeromare Resident), Juicy (juice651 Resident), and Red (RedHeadJO Resident) all finished tied with 9 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
ruggeromare Resident 2 7
juice651 Resident 4 5
RedHeadJO Resident 4 5

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Rugger’s favor with having second place finishe over Juicy’s and Red’s fourth place finishes as their best.

As both Juicy and Red have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this remaining tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
 juice651 Resident 5 4
 RedHeadJO Resident 4 5

In the last race, Juicy breaks the tie with Red with his fourth place finish over Red’s fifth place finish.
