Saturday afternoon was a beautiful afternoon in September. Today the races were again in Appleberry. This time we had a fleet of nine Bandit IFs at the start. Two Bandit IFs had crew on board. The North Sea regions behaved well, but we had several dropouts in the Fruit Island regions.
Today we would sail two races. In the first race, the fleet spread very quickly across the North Sea towards the first mark deep in the Fruit Island regions. In the second race, the fleet stayed together for a very long time. Halfway through the race, groups started to form.
We had six DNFs (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through all races and it was another successful and sporting day in The North Sea and Fruit Islands.
Race Director: Daenerys
Assist Race Director: Tamarushka, and Cryptic
Wind: 170° (S) 18kts
Wind: 190° (S) 18kts
Note:
Did Not Finish (DNF) = number of finish + 1
Disqualified (DSQ) = number of finish + number of DNFs + 1
Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start + 1
Today’s winner was Julie (JulieRoyale Resident), with Jack (Jacquimo Resident) second, and Moon (Moonglownight Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.
Race Notes:
Julie (JulieRoyale Resident), Jack (Jacquimo Resident), and Moon (Moonglownight Resident) all finished tied with 4 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“
Skipper | Best Finish | Next Best Finish |
JulieRoyale Resident | 1 | 3 |
Jacquimo Resident | 1 | 3 |
Moonglownight Resident | 2 | 2 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Julie’s and Jack’s favor with having first place finishes over Moon’s second place finish as his best.
As Julie and Jack both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this remaining tie:
“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“
Skipper | Race 1 | Race 2 |
JulieRoyale Resident | 3 | 1 |
Jacquimo Resident | 1 | 3 |
In the last race, Julie breaks the tie with Jack with her first place finish over jack’s third place finish.
Siri (Sirius Rosca) and Juicy (juice651 Resident) both finished tied with 11 points.
Sirius Rosca | 4 | 7 |
juice651 Resident | 5 | 6 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Sirius’ favor with having a fourth place finish over Juicy’s sixth place finish as his best.
