This weeks North Sea Bandit IF Regatta took place on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in September. Today, the races were again held Dragonfruit. This time we had a fleet of eight Bandit IF’s at the start. Three Bandit IF’s had crew on board. The North Sea regions behaved well and there was not a cloud in the sky.

Today we would sail two races. The first race started in Dragonfruit and finished in Eden Curlew. The second race would follow the same route back to Dragonfruit. We used Lalia’s raceline, that’s in testing with a new networking feature, for the first time to host this type of competition, and it won’t be the last. In the first race, the fleet broke up after the first buoy. But there were still fights between different skippers. In the second race, the fleet stayed together until the end. This made the race even more exciting than the first race.

We had one DNF (Did Not Finish) and one DSQ (Disqualified) through all races and it was another successful and sporting day in The North Sea and Fruit Islands.

Race Director: Daenerys
Assist Race Director: Tamarushka

Wind: 180° (S) 18kts

Wind: 225° (SW) 18kts

Note:
Did Not Finish (DNF) = number of finish + 1
Disqualified (DSQ) = number of finish + number of DNFs + 1
Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start + 1

Today’s winner was Julie (JulieRoyale Resident), with Red (RedHeadJO Resident) second, and Moon (Moonglownight Resident in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
Jack (Jacquimo Resident) was disqualified (DSQ) during the second race for sailing an incorrect course, missing the fourth course mark, the yellow buoy in Eden Auk, completely.

Red (RedHeadJO Resident) and Juicy (juice651 Resident) both finished tied with 8 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
RedHeadJO Resident 2 6
juice651 Resident 4 4

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Red’s favor with having a second place finish over Juicy’s fourth place finish as his best.

Jack (Jacquimo Resident) and Siri (Sirius Rosca) both finished tied with 10 points.

Jacquimo Resident 3 7
Sirius Rosca 5 5

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Jack’s favor with having a third place finish over Siri’s fifth place finish as his best.
