The first North Sea Bandit IF Regatta saw a beautiful Saturday September afternoon. Today the races were held from Appleberry. We had a fleet of eight Bandit IFs at the start. One of the skippers had to give up before the start due to technical problems. The North Sea and Fruit regions behaved well and there was not a cloud in the sky.
Today we would sail two races. The first match went through the west of Fruit Islands. The fleet stayed together for a long time. However, as the competition progressed, the fleet slowly disintegrated. The second race went through the tropics and infighting ensued until halfway through the race. A skipper got entangled in an orb.
We had one DNF (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualified) through all races and it was another successful and sporting day in The North Sea and Fruit Islands.
Race Director: Daenerys
Assist Race Director: Tamarushka, and Cryptic
Wind: 170° (S) 18kts
Wind: 190° (S) 18kts
Note:
Did Not Finish (DNF) = number of finish + 1
Disqualified (DSQ) = number of finish + number of DNFs + 1
Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start + 1
Today’s winner was Red (RedHeadJO Resident), with Moon (Moonglownight Resident) second, and Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.
Race Notes:
Moon (Moonglownight Resident) and Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) both finished tied with 5 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“
Skipper | Best Finish | Next Best Finish |
Moonglownight Resident | 1 | 4 |
ruggeromare Resident | 2 | 3 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Moon’s favor with having a first place finish over Rugger’s second place finish as his best.
