Calm to choppy seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The North Sea regions were generally smooth for everyone as the three DNFs (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day, one during the first race and two during the second race respectively, were due to skippers crashing while crossing across region corners. The crowds that gathered on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Jakana region, and along the shores of the islands in the Citrus, Ziziphus, and Genip regions, reveled in the frenetic fleet-foiled feline frenzy on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea SS-01 (Second Sailstice) and North Sea Hay courses, was made up of a majority of three WildWind AC-45s. Two crewed The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, and one TMS Nacra 17 rounded out this weeks catamaran fleet.

Today’s winner was Daenerys (blondij Resident), with Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) second, and Sea (filax Carter) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
ViV (vivipezz Resident) was disqualified (DSQ) during the first race for finishing under protest while failing to complete a 360° penalty turn due to a Rule 10 On Opposite Tacks foul at the start.

10 ON OPPOSITE TACKS
When boats are on opposite tacks, a port-tack boat shall keep clear of a starboard-tack boat.

Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) and Sea (filax Carter) both finished tied with 6 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Emileigh Starbrook 2 4
filax Carter 3 3

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Emileigh’s favor with having a second place finish over Sea’s third place finish as her best.
