Calm to choppy seas, a great fleet turnout, and a new boat highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea regions were behaving well for everyone during the small boat portion of the regatta as all fourteen boats in the fleet finished the course with nary a hiccup. Storm clouds started to brew during the big boat portion, however, as two DNFs (Did Not Finish) occurred, both from mishaps on a region crossing in the Citrus region. The crowd that gathered on the small race dock, in the Eden Jakana region, and along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus, Genip, and Citrus regions, cheered on a spirited display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers.

With the great conditions during the small boat portion, also came the first race for the new Isard Sjogin. The Sjogin, a double-ender sloop from Lalia (laliacasau Resident), was released earlier in the morning before the Open Regatta. As of the publication of this post, the X version of the Sjogin, the version intended to be raced, has a preliminary handicap value of 0.60. As always, with any new boat, times run on North Sea Olympic Course (Long) will help the accuracy of the handicap. Any runs made for the Sjogin can be submitted, via notecard, to Cryptic or Daenerys. Please see North Sea Handicap Table for our handicap list and a link to the Google Sheet used to calculate those values.

This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was made up of a majority of five Bandit 22 LTEs. Three Bandit IFs, two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, one sailing single-handed and one sailing crewed respectively, one Bandit 25r, one Dolphin Moth, one Quest M-24, and one Isard Sjogin rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the newly created North Sea Hay course1, was made up of a small majority of four TMS I-Mocca 60s. Three WildWind Open 60s, one TMS One Design 65, one WildWind RC-44r, and one Trudeau 12 Metre rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

1North Sea Hay is an updated version of a course by Hay Ah from 2013 named NSHay01.

Race Notes:
Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) was disqualified (DSQ) during the big boat portion for sailing an incorrect course, missing the western island in the Cherry region, the third course mark.

Moon (moonglownight Resident) was disqualified (DSQ) during the big boat portion for finishing under protest while failing to complete a 360° penalty turn due to a Rule 11 On The Same Tack, Overlapped foul.

11 ON THE SAME TACK, OVERLAPPED
