Choppy seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions were mostly behaved as four DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day, two DNFs in each race respectively. The two DNFs that occurred during the first race were due to skippers pulling their boats, one immediately after the start as her connection started having issues, and the remainder from a skipper’s boat pausing at each region crossing. The two DNFs that occurred during the second race were both attributed to crossing crashes. The crowds that gathered on the small race dock and Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, in the Eden Jakana region, and on the lighthouse observation deck on the island in the Ziziphus region, cheered on a great display of fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Olympic Short Mirror course and a 2 lap affair on the North Sea Short Loop Mirror course, was made up of a majority of ten Bandit 22 LTEs. Four Bandit IFs, three sailing crewed and one sailing single-handed respectively, rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Today’s winner was Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook), with Sirius (Sirius Rosca) second, and Sea (filax Carter) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.
Race Notes:
Sea (filax Carter) and Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) finished tied with 9 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“
Skipper | Race 1 | Race 2 |
filax Carter | 6 | 3 |
ruggeromare Resident | 3 | 6 |
In the last race, Sea breaks the tie with Rugger with her third place finish over Rugger’s sixth place finish.
Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) and Red (RedHeadJO Resident) both finished tied with 26 points. As they both finished with the exact same finishes, a DNF (Did Not Finish) during the first race and a DNS (Did Not Start) during the second race respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking this tie. Therefore, Julie and Red remain tied in thirteenth place overall.
