Calm seas, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. With a fresh breeze of 18 knots coming from the southwest, The North Sea regions behaved well for everyone with only one DNF (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day. The lone DNF was due to a skipper crashing while crossing region corners during the small boat portion. The crowds that gathered along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on some competitive and exciting fleet racing on display from this weeks skippers.
This weeks small boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea CCW (counter-clockwise) course, was made up of a slim majority of six Bandit 22 LTEs. Five Bandit IFs, three sailing crewed and two sailing single-handed respectively, two Dolphin Moths, one The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class, and one Bandit 25r rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on the North Sea Outer Inner Loop (OIL) course, was made up of a majority of five TMS I-Mocca 60s. Three WildWind Open 60s, two WildWind AC-45s, one TMS Ushuaia, and one Trudeau 12 Metre rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.
