Mostly calm seas, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions were generally well behaved as only two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. Both DNFs occurred during the first race, with the first due to a skipper crashing to desktop in the middle of a region, and the remainder due to a skipper crashing from a rough region crossing. The crowds that gathered along the shores of the island in the Ziziphus region, as well as on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on some tightknit fleet racing from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Manta and North Sea Copacabana courses, was made up of a majority of nine Bandit 22 LTEs. Five Bandit IFs, three sailing single-handed and two sailing crewed respectively, and one Bandit 50/3 rounded out this weeks Bandit fleet.

Race Director: Cryptic

Note:
Did Not Finish (DNF) = number of finish +1
Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start +1

Today’s winner was Jenna (jnx1e Resident), with Cate (Cate Sewell) second, and Moon (moonglownight Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.

Race Notes:
Red (RedHeadJO Resident) and Zimtzicke (Nicole Myhre) both finished the second race tied with a final time of 0:14:24. As the final time result is rounded to the nearest whole second in the Google Sheet, the exact final times for each skipper are: (race time multiplied by handicap equaling final time, all time in seconds)

Skipper Race Time Handicap Final Time
RedHeadJO 1489 0.58 863.62
Nicole 1122 0.77 863.94

With the final times shown in seconds, the tie breaks in Red’s favor with having a 863.62 seconds finish over Zimtzicke’s 863.94 seconds finish. Just to note, if both skippers final times had been an exact tie, Rule A7 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing would be used to break that tie instead:

If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.

Jenna (jnx1e Resident) and Cate (Cate Sewell) both finished tied with 5 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
jnx1e Resident 1 4
Cate Sewell 2 3

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Jenna’s favor with having a first place finish over Cate’s second place finish as her best.

Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook), Juicy (juice651 Resident), Vergelia (Vergelia Resident), Diana (Dianafra Allen), and Max (Maximiliano Szondi) all finished tied with 25 points.

Emileigh Starbrook 9 16
juice651 Resident 11 14
Vergelia Resident 11 14
Dianafra Allen 12 13
Maximiliano Szondi 12 13

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Emileigh’s favor with having a ninth place finish over Juicy’s and Vergelia’s eleventh place finishes, and Diana’s and Max’s twelfth place finishes as their best.

As Juicy and Vergelia both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to further break this tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
juice651 Resident 14 11
Vergelia Resident 11 14

In the last race, Juicy breaks the tie with Vergelia with his eleventh place finish over Vergelia’s fourteenth place finish.

As Diana and Max both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this remaining tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
Dianafra Allen 13 12
Maximiliano Szondi 12 13

In the last race, Diana breaks the tie with Max with her twelfth place finish over Max’s thirteenth place finish.
