Thursday afternoon was a beautiful day for the North Sea Triple Threat Regatta. With good wind coming from the southwest again, The North Sea regions behaved well, and there was not a cloud in the sky. Today we had seven Bandit 22 LTEs and three The Mesh Shop (TMS) Star Class on the starting line. Two Star Class had crew on board.

Why do skippers decide to run a 360° penalty turn just after or before a mark. Do they want to mislead other skippers, or do they think that this is the best place because there is a circle around a mark? The chance of hitting another skipper may be higher, as the other skippers don’t expect anyone to run a 360° turn there. I see this happening regularly. Stay away from the other boats when you are doing a 360° penalty turn.

We had one DNF (Did Not Finish) and one DSQ (Disqualified) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

Race Director: Daenerys
Assistant Race Director: Tamarushka, and Cryptic

Wind: 230° (SW) 15kts

Wind: 235° (SW) 17kts

Note:
Did Not Finish (DNF) = number of finish +1
Disqualified (DSQ) = number of finish + number of DNFs + 1
Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start +1

Today’s winners on the Bandit 22 LTE were Nicole (Nicole Myhre), with Julia (Geneer Gynoid) second, and Emi (Emileigh Starbrook) in third place.

Today’s winners on the TMS Star Class were Julie (JulieRoyale Resident), with Siri (Sirius Rosca) second, and Max (Maximiliano Szondi) in third place.

Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
Moon (Moonglownight Resident) was disqualified (DSQ) during the first race for sailing an incorrect course, he sailed the last mark, the pink buoy in the Sloe region, clockwise instead of counter-clockwise.

Emi (Emileigh Starbrook) and Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) both finished tied with 8 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Emileigh Starbrook 3 5
ruggeromare Resident 4 4

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Emi’s favor with having a third place finish over Rugger’s fourth place finish as his best.
