Calm to choppy seas, with a nice fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The North Sea regions were calm throughout the first race, as every skipper finished. However, a storm blew in during the second race, as four DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded. Of those four DNFs, two were due to skippers crashing while crossing on region corners, with the remaining two from skippers crashing on border crossings. The crowds that gathered along the beaches of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, as well as on the small race dock in the Eden Jakana region, cheered on the frantic fleet-foiled feline frenzy on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Manta Reverse and North Sea Extreme Reverse courses, was made up of a majority of seven The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, four sailing single-handed and three sailing with crew respectively. Three WildWind AC-45s, and one TMS Nacra 17 rounded out this weeks catamaran fleet.

Today’s winner was Daenerys (blondij Resident), with Sin (Sinarielle Resident) second, and Palani (Palani Allen) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.
Race Notes:
Daenerys (blondij Resident) and Sin (Sinarielle Resident) both finished the first race tied with a final time of 0:10:26. As the final time result is rounded to the nearest whole second in the Google Sheet, the exact final times for each skipper are: (race time multiplied by handicap equaling final time, all time in seconds)
Skipper | Race Time | Handicap | Final Time |
blondij | 505 | 1.24 | 626.20 |
Sinarielle | 497 | 1.26 | 626.22 |
With the final times shown in seconds, the tie breaks in Daenerys’s favor with having a 626.20 seconds finish over Sin’s 626.22 seconds finish. Just to note, if both skippers final times had been an exact tie, Rule A7 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing would be used to break that tie instead:
“If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.“
Palani (Palani Allen) and Cole (Colette Verino) both finished tied with 8 points. Rule A8.1 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“
Skipper | Best Finish | Next Best Finish |
Palani Allen | 3 | 5 |
Colette Verino | 4 | 4 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Palani’s favor with having a third place finish over Cole’s fourth place finish as her best.
Sirius (Sirius Rosca) and Julia Raymond (Geneer Gynoid) finished tied with 14 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Appendix A, Scoring, 2021 – 2024 World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“
Skipper | Race 1 | Race 2 |
Sirius Rosca | 8 | 6 |
Geneer Gynoid | 6 | 8 |
In the last race, Sirius breaks the tie with Julia with his sixth place finish over Julia’s eighth place finish.
Kiki (Kei Frequency) and Juicy (juice651 Resident) both finished tied with 17 points.
Kei Frequency | 7 | 10 |
juice651 Resident | 8 | 9 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Kiki’s favor with having a seventh place finish over Juicy’s eighth place finish as his best.
