Calm seas, with a great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Bandit Regatta. The North Sea regions were well behaved as only two DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day, both occurring during the first race. Of those two DNFs, one was from a skipper hitting a corner, and the other from a skipper pulling her boat. The crowds that gathered on the small race dock and Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, both located in the Eden Jakana region, and along the beaches of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, cheered on the close fleet racing on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea 01 and North Sea 03 courses, was comprised of a majority of ten Bandit 22 LTEs. Seven Bandit IFs, four sailing single-handed and three sailing with crew respectively, two Bandit 25s, and one Bandit 50/3 X rounded out the fleet for the first race. Some skippers switched things around for the second race, as one skipper switched out her Bandit 22 LTE for a Bandit 50/3 X, and another switched out her Bandit IF for a Bandit 22 LTE.

Today’s winner was Julie (JulieRoyale Resident), with Jenna (jnx1e Resident) second, and Moon (moonglownight Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate and to the SLCG for helping with race duties.

Race Notes:
Amy Pond (Montserrat Naidoo) and Rayz (Rayzza Rubble) both finished tied with 21 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Montserrat Naidoo 8 13
Rayzza Rubble 9 12

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Amy’s favor with having a eighth place finish over Rayz’s ninth place finish as his best.

Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) and Sea (filax Carter) both finished tied with 26 points.

Emileigh Starbrook 7 19
filax Carter 12 14

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Emileigh’s favor with having a seventh place finish over Sea’s twelfth place finish as his best.
