Calm seas and a great fleet turnout highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The North Sea regions were well behaved for everyone as the only DNF (Did Not Finish) recorded on the day was due to a skipper crashing from crossing at region corners. The crowd that assembled on the small race dock, in the Eden Jakana region, and along the shores of the islands in the Ziziphus and Genip regions, reveled in the frantic fleet-foiled feline frenzy on display from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Manta Reverse and North Sea Extreme Reverse courses, was comprised of a majority of ten The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, four sailing with crew and six sailing single-handed respectively. Four TMS Nacra 17s rounded out this weeks catamaran fleet.

Race Notes:
Isa (isab DeCuir), Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook), and Palani (Palani Allen) all finished tied with 14 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
isab DeCuir 3 11
Emileigh Starbrook 4 10
Palani Allen 4 10

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Isa’s favor with having a third place finish over Emileigh’s and Palani’s fourth place finishes as their best. As Emileigh and Palani have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this remaining tie:

If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
Emileigh Starbrook 10 4
Palani Allen 4 10

In the last race, Emileigh breaks the tie with Palani with her fourth place finish over Palani’s tenth place finish.
