Mild sim sailing weather, with another great fleet turnout, highlighted this weeks North Sea Open Regatta. The North Sea regions were calm and behaved for most, as five DNFs (Did Not Finish) were recorded on the day. Of those five DNFs, two were due to skippers hitting region corners, with another from a skipper pulling his boat from frustration after his navigation HUD failed, and the final two from skippers crashing on region crossings. The crowd that assembled on the Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, in the Eden Jakana region, and on the observation deck of the lighthouse on the island in the Ziziphus region, cheered on some great racing on display from this weeks skippers.
This weeks small boat fleet, sailing a two lap affair on the North Sea Short Loop course, was comprised of a majority of eleven Bandit 22 LTEs. Three Bandit IFs, two The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, one sailing single-handed and one sailing with crew respectively, one Quest 2m, one Dolphin Moth, and one Trudeau Leetle Cat II rounded out this weeks small boat fleet. Meanwhile, the big boat fleet, sailing on North Sea Olympic Course (Long), was comprised of a majority of four Wildwind Open 60s. Two TMS One Design 65s, two TMS Volvo Open 70s, one Bandit 50/3 x, one ACA33, and one Wildwind RC-44r rounded out this weeks big boat fleet.

Race Notes:
Meireles (Meireles Diabolito) was disqualified (DSQ) during the small boat portion for sailing an incorrect course.
Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) was disqauflied (DSQ) during the small boat portion for finishing the race under protest while failing to complete a 360° penalty turn due to a Rule 10 On Opposite Tacks foul.
“10 ON OPPOSITE TACKS
When boats are on opposite tacks, a port-tack boat shall keep clear of a starboard-tack boat.“

Emileigh (Emileigh Starbrook) and Kim (Kim Farleigh) both finished tied with 13 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“

Jenna (jnx1e Resident), Rugger (ruggeromare Resident), BalutA (balut24 Resident), Rider (Rider Wilder), and Meireles (Meireles Diabolito), all finished tied with 26 points. As they all had the exact same finishes, a 14 point finish during the small boat portion and a 12 point finish during the big boat portion respectively, neither Rule A8.1 or Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing will satisfy breaking their tie. Therefore, Jenna, Rugger, BalutA, Rider, and Meireles all remain tied in sixteenth place overall.
