It was a beautiful day for sailing, Saturday afternoon. This time we again had nine boats of the same class, namely Bandit IFs, two of the Bandit IFs had crew. The North Sea regions behaved well and even in the Fruit waters there was not a cloud in the sky. However, during the first race, we had a storm in the Morinda region.

We had a good start and immediately after the start four skippers split off by tackling immediately. The rounding of the first mark went smoothly. After the third mark, two skippers had taken the lead, but they would end up in a thunderstorm. They were chased by a group of five boats. After the thunderstorm we had a front runner with a chasing group of four, which slowly fell apart.

The start of the second race was also excellent and a fleet of seven boats sailed to the first two marks, of which the first mark was an island. After the second mark, each skipper made their own way along the coastline to the third mark, dancing between tacking in time and not touching each other. At the third mark we had a leader who had split off, followed by a group of four and three boats. Between the fourth and sixth mark we had a hard fight for fourth and fifth place.

We had one DNF (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualififed) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea.

More pictures after the results.

Wind: 235° (SW) 13kts

Note:
Did Not Finish (DNF) = number of finish +1
Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start +1

Today’s winner was Moon (moonglownight Resident), with Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) second, and Tamar (Tamara Czervik) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.

Race Notes:
Siri (Sirius Rosca), Kim (Kim Farleigh) and Jack (Jacquimo Resident) all finished tied with 11 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:

If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.

Skipper Best Finish Next Best Finish
Sirius Rosca 4 7
Kim Farleigh 4 7
Jacquimo Resident 5 6

With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Siri’s and Kim’s favor with having a fourth place finish over Jack’s fifth place finish as his best. As Siri and Kim both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to further break this tie:

“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores“

Skipper Race 1 Race 2
Sirius Rosca 7 4
Kim Farleigh 4 7

In the last race, Siri breaks the tie with Kim with his fourth place finish over Kim’s seventh place finish
