Calm seas, with a late storm, and a great fleet turnout highlighted this weeks Cat Fight in The North Sea. The regions of the North Sea were calm for most during the first race, as only one DNF (Did Not Finish) was recorded. A storm arrived during the second race, as three additional DNFs occurred. Two of those additional DNFs were due to crashes on region crossings, while the third DNF was due to a skipper crossing at region corners. The crowd that gathered on the small race dock and Poseidon Centre Spectator Pier, both in the Eden Jakana region, and at the lighthouse observation deck on the island in the Ziziphus region, cheered on the fleet-foiled feline frenzy from this weeks skippers. This weeks fleet, sailing on the North Sea Copacabana Reverse and North Sea Extreme Reverse courses, was comprised of a majority of five The Mesh Shop (TMS) Flying Shadows, four sailing with crew and one sailing single-handed respectively. Three TMS Nacra 17s, and two Wildwind AC-45s rounded out this weeks catamaran fleet.

Today’s winner was Moon (moonglownight Resident), with Palani (Palani Allen) second, and Daenerys (blondij Resident) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.
Nihiwatu (Nihiwatu Resident) was disqualified (DSQ) during the second race for finishing under protest while failing to complete a 360° penalty turn due to a Rule 13 While Tacking foul.
“13 WHILE TACKING
After a boat passes head to wind, she shall keep clear of other boats until she is on a close-hauled course.
During that time rules 10, 11 and 12 do not apply. If two boats are subject to this rule at the same time,
the one on the other’s port side or the one astern shall keep clear.“

Daenerys (blondij Resident) and Max (Maximiliano Szondi) finished tied with 7 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores.“

In the last race, Daenerys breaks the tie with Max with her first place finish over Max’s sixth place finish.
