Saturday afternoon was a beautiful day for sailing. This time we again had ten boats of the same class, namely Bandit IFs, one of the Bandit IFs had crew. In the North Sea we do not sail the same route every week, so the skippers can dream this route after having sailed it a few times. The North Sea regions behaved well and even in the Fruit waters there was not a cloud in the sky.
We had a good start and the first tack to the first mark went smoothly. At the first mark had three boats that had taken the lead. The other seven boats remained together in herds. The battle for first place was not decided until the third last mark
The start of the second race went smoothly and a fleet of eight boats sailed to the first two marks. Halfway through the race we had two groups of four boats. The winner of the competition would be decided between the four boats now in charge. However, the battle was not over yet. This was only decided at the last mark.
We had no DNFs (Did Not Finish) and no DSQs (Disqualififed) through both races and it was another successful and sporty day in The North Sea..
More pictures after the results.

Wind: 235° (SW) 12kts
Note:
Did Not Finish (DNF) = number of finish +1
Did Not Start (DNS) = number of start +1
Today’s winner was Moon (moonglownight Resident), with Julie (JulieRoyale Resident) second, and Siri (Sirius Rosca) in third place. Congratulations to all of you. Thank you to everyone who came to sail and spectate.
Race Notes:
Tora (torajiro Whitfield) and Max (Maximiliano Szondi) both finished the second race tied at the finishing line with a time of 00:09:18 As their final time also remains tied, as they both sailed the same boat, Rule A7 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to score this tie:
“If boats are tied at the finishing line or if a handicap or rating system is used and boats have equal corrected times, the points for the place for which the boats have tied and for the place(s) immediately below shall be added together and divided equally. Boats tied for a race prize shall share it or be given equal prizes.“
Therefore, both Tora (torajiro Whitfield) and Max (Maximiliano Szondi) receive 8.5 points, as the product for the place for which they have tied and for the place immediately below, 8 and 9, added together and divided equally.
Siri (Sirius Rosca) and Rugger (ruggeromare Resident) both finished tied with 6 points. Rule A8.1 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If there is a series score tie between two or more boats, each boat’s race scores shall be listed in order of best to worst, and at the first point(s) where there is a difference the tie shall be broken in favour of the boat(s) with the best score(s). No excluded scores shall be used.“
Skipper | Best Finish | Next Best Finish |
Sirius Rosca | 1 | 5 |
ruggeromare Resident | 3 | 3 |
With the race results rearranged in best to worst finish order, per A8.1, the tie breaks in Siri’s favor with having a first place finish over Rugger’s third place finish as his best.
Maurice (Mauip Whitfield) and Kim (Kim Farleigh) both finished tied with 17 points. As they both have duplicate finishes, Rule A8.2 of Guidance on Scoring under Appendix A to the Rules of Sailing is used to break this tie:
“If a tie still remains between two or more boats, they shall be ranked in order of their scores in the last race. Any remaining ties shall be broken by using the tied boats’ scores in the next-to-last race and so on until all ties are broken. These scores shall be used even if some of them are excluded scores“
Skipper | Race 1 | Race 2 |
Mauip Whitfield | 10 | 7 |
Kim Farleigh | 7 | 10 |
In the last race, Maurice breaks the tie with Kim with his seventh place finish over Kim’s tenth place finish
